Ivan “Skip” Mallas, former Fergus Falls mayoral candidate, was stabbed multiple times during an altercation at his home on North Springen Avenue early Sunday morning. He was transported by ambulance to the hospital, where he was treated and released, police reported.races

According to law enforcement, Mallas called police at about 12:45 a.m. to report that he had been stabbed multiple times. Upon arriving at the scene, police were told by Mallas that he was stabbed by Timothy Eugene Peterson, 42, who lived a few houses away. Police arrested Peterson without incident and also recovered a knife which they believe was used in the stabbing.

Peterson is being held on probable cause for first and second degree assault. It is not known at this time what the circumstances surrounding the stabbing were. The police department is still investigating the incident.
