State patrol reports busy weekend

Speedy driving and bad driving weather combined to cause several accidents on west central Minnesota state highways over the weekend, including rollovers near Fergus Falls, Barnesville, Dalton, Ashby, Holmes City, Wolverton, and Wadena.

Things started to deteriorate at about 1 p.m. on Sunday, the Minnesota State Patrol reported, when warm temperatures started to stick snow to roadways, causing slippery patches. In all, west central state troopers dealt with 14 crashes and seven rollovers. Three of the crashes resulted in injuries to one or more people involved, although the crashes near Dalton and Fergus Falls did not result in injuries. The Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Department also reported a non-injury rollover near Weetown.

The state patrol reported that in most of the crashes, a careless driver was going too fast on a slippery roadway.
