Pelican Rapids’ streak ended by Pequot Lakes

The Pelican Rapids Vikings lost a 70-65 heartbreaker to Pequot Lakes Saturday night. It was the Vikings’ first loss since January 15 when they lost 56-52 to Pequot Lakes on the Vikings’ home court.
Pelican Rapids entered the game with a lethargic start, falling behind 10-2. But the Vikings rallied to tie the game at 19-19 on the strong play of sophomore forward Tucker Forsgren, who scored eight of his 10 points in the first half and drew three charging penalties.
The Vikings took a 21-19 lead with 7:10 remaining in the half. Pelican Rapids held that hard-fought lead until the final 1:22 of the game. The Vikings went into the half with a 32-31 lead.
Ryan Bruggeman went the length of the court and made a bank shot to give the Vikings their first points of the second half..
The Vikings eventually built a 7 point lead when Luke Halbakken scored the 14th of his eventual 18 points when he connected for a basketand drew a foul to set up a 3-point play and a 42-35 lead. After trading baskets back-and-fourth, the Vikings still held a 7 point lead at 53-46.
But the Patriots stormed back and the Vikings were foiled by the Patriots’ Jordan Anderson, who scored 18 of his 20 points in the second half, including nine consecuative free-throws that helped the Patriots overcome the Vikings in the game’s final minutes.
Pequot Lakes tied the game at 59-59 with 2:30 remaining. The teams remained tied at 63-63 with 1:22 remaining.
But the Patriots moved ahead for good when Forsgren fouled out and sent Anderson to the line for two points and a 65-63 lead. The Patriot’s Logan Lange put the game out of reach with two free-throws with 7 seconds remaining.
