Owner bit, donkey loses battle [UPDATED]

In a battle of man vs. beast, a New York Mills man came out on top over his donkey on Thursday when he shot it dead after it bit him.

The man, Paul Stoltz, 51, of 806 East Diamond Road, showed up at the Perham Memorial Hospital at about 5:15 p.m., law enforcement reported. Stoltz told hospital staff that he had been bitten by a donkey.

Upon further investigation, a sheriff’s deputy discovered that Stoltz had been trying to move his donkey from one field to another on his property earlier in the day. The donkey did not want to move and bit Stoltz in the back and knocked him to the ground. In turn, Stoltz shot and killed the donkey.

Stoltz’s injuries do not appear to be serious, but the hospital wants him to bring the donkey’s head into the hospital to test for rabies.

This hot headed imbecile should be punnished and never allowed to have an animal again as long as he lives. Donkeys, mules and horses all work better when treated with kindness and patience. I grew up on a farm with many animals including horses, cows, ( milkers and a beef herd), hogs, chickens, ducks, and geese. Talking calmly to them, they would easily do as asked. Another family member tried the hot head approach and not only got bit by a horse, he got kicked by a cow breaking an arm and 4 ribs, ( he deserved it ). Twice a year I walked animals to different pastures right down roads and through a town without incident. About 6 miles each way.
When I left home for college, the hot head approach caused the trouble mentioned. Just because someone can buy land, it doesn’t mean the ability to be a good animal owner comes with the purchase agreement.

Why would you have to kill this donkey?!?

lets get a few things in order here….the donkey Fred did not belong to my dad he belonged to me the daughter and he was not a small gray donkey he was an 800 pound brown jack. Fred was a rescue case I got him because his former owners were going to put him down for biting and killing their cattle. Our barnyard flooded out and we were trying to move him to the dry one my dad was walking infront of him and he turned to talk to Fred. When he turned back around Fred charged him, knocked him down, kneeled on his back and bit him…he left a 4″ by 9″ deep bite in my dads back. Had my dad not landed in the snow Fred would have crushed him! I have two little children runing around outside in the afternoons with me should I have waited until he attacked one of them and possibly killed one of them before something was done??? I think not…so for all you judgemental people who call my dad a hot headed imbecile…think again he worked with Fred for hours and hours over the past 7 years and was nothing but kind to this animal if you want to judge someone judge me, the daughter who shot her own donkey because i did not want my small childrens lives at risk…next time get the facts!!!

I had known this stated donkey for several years even before becoming directly invovled with it and as I have witnessed then, past years, should have never been allowed around animals or people because of his agressive nature. I was witness to it attacking animals twice his size and causing these animals to have to be treated by a vet or put down to injuries sustained from it. Further more vets that treated these animals had said it needed to be put down. You miss guided fools that think that animals can do no wrong should see the scars that have been left on my face from a domestic cat that was not provoked. It took twenty three stitches to seal up the holes that went all the way to my skull and through my left cheek. so do not tell me that animals are harmless unless forced to be by humans.

OK, who was the irresponsible clown that wrote this article?
Next time, instead of sensationalism, try gathering ALL the facts FIRST and writing a complete and truthful story that doesn’t cause wars between neighbors, idiot!
