Rhodes to headline Fergus hip hop show [UPDATED]
Published 10:45am Wednesday, March 30, 2011 Updated 11:49am Wednesday, March 30, 2011Fergus Falls hip hop fans will have a local chance to enjoy some live music on Saturday, April 2, when three hip hop artists will be playing at the Z103 bar from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.
Jacinta Macheel, the local organizer of the concert, said that she organized the concert after the success of a hip hop concert she held in town last year at about this time, when 250 people showed up.
“It’s an annual event (now),” she said. “It was a great turnout last year, and this year I’m bringing some artists in from Minneapolis to play as well.”
Those artists would be Ernest Rhodes and his backing band. Rhodes is an up-and-coming hip hop artist and DJ, and Macheel said she worked hard to book him in order to make the event more high profile.
“It’s pretty cool that he’s coming up here,” she said.
Rhodes recently recorded a full-length album, “Transistor.”
Also playing will be two groups from the Fargo/Moorhead area: FM Beatbox, and the South Moorhead Scratch Dungeon, which played last year. One member of the South Moorhead Scratch Dungeon is Jack Hegerle, who used to live in Fergus Falls.
Tickets will be for sale at the door and cost $5. There is a 21 and older age limit. Macheel warned people to get to the bar on time, as music will begin playing at 9 p.m. sharp.
“There’s so many artists that are playing that it’s kind of jam packed,” she said.
Macheel said she hopes to continue expanding the show, and she added that demand for a show has also been high from people under the age of 21.
“I’m looking at doing an all ages show in the future because of the response,” she said.
