For The Journal

The Otter Tail County Historical Society is using social media to bring the real life experiences of Private Eben Corliss to the public.

Followers of the PvtEbenECorliss Twitter account can read Corliss’ diary entries in semi-daily tweets.

This is just one of the ways the museum will begin to commemorate the 150th Anniversary of the Civil War.

Ebenezer E. Corliss enlisted in the Union Army while living in Winona, Minn. He served in the 2nd Minnesota Volunteer Regiment and kept a diary throughout the war, writing about what he saw and did, including his wounding at the Battle of Chickamauga.

His first journal entry was dated April 26, 1861. Additional tweets will come from the 1861-1865 Winona Daily Republican newspaper and official Minnesota military dispatches. For more information, e-mail mhermes@otchs.org or visit the historical society website www.otchs.org
