Woman in Dalton machete attack dies

The Dalton woman who was allegedly assaulted with a machete by her son on April 25 died over the weekend in Fargo.

Barbara Howard, 68, received serious injuries to her head and hands after her son, James Francis Howard, 46, allegedly tried to kill her at her home.

Barbara Howard’s autopsy will take place today. County Attorney David Hauser said Howard’s charge of first degree attempted murder could be upgraded to first degree murder if Barbara Howard’s cause of death is related to the attack. If upgraded, Howard would face a grand jury trial.
