AC4TA board names interim executive director

Published 10:58am Wednesday, May 25, 2011

The board of birectors at A Center for the Arts announced the appointment of Ann Newell as interim director at A Center for the Arts for the coming months.

She will work with departing Executive Director Rebecca Petersen through the months of June and July and will assume full director responsibilities in August while the board continues the search for a full-time director.

“I’m very excited,” Newell said. “Then I started thinking, ‘oh my goodness what have I done?’ But there is a tremendous staff and a tremendous board in place and I’ll do whatever I can to help the board and staff continue the strong arts programs that Rebecca started.”

Newell, who served on the board for two consecutive three-year terms, and also served as the chair of the Education Committee, has a strong history of arts programming and arts education. From 1989 to 2007, she taught music in Fergus Falls at Cleveland Elementary School.

She has also served as the director of music at Grace United Methodist Church in Fergus Falls for many years and continues to be their organist, hand bell director and Chancel choir director.

“Ann is the kind of person who will support staff in their rigorous day-to-day schedules and allow them to continue the great work they already do,” Petersen said. “Because she has a history with the board and has an ability to see and understand some of the immediate needs…she will be able to help us make a smooth transition over the summer.”
