Fire burns down Rothsay barn

A barn in rural Rothsay burned to the ground early Monday morning, killing 20 chickens and destroying several garden implements and other items.

The fire was reported at 5 a.m. The resident of 1435 390th St. reported hearing lightning strike the barn at the residence shortly before smelling smoke from the fire.

The Rothsay fire department arrived to put out the fire. A bull escaped from the barn before it burned down.
