Volunteers make Smokin’ Iron successful [UPDATED]
Published 9:38am Tuesday, June 7, 2011 Updated 12:40pm Tuesday, June 7, 2011Kathy and Terry Wagenman, who head planning for Smokin Iron in Ottertail, quickly emphasize that this annual event would not take place were it not for many volunteers.
This volunteer group totals 125 for work that takes place before, during and after the event.
“We still have lots to do in the next two weeks, prior to June 17-18,” said co-chair Kathy Wagenman on Friday. “Each volunteer brings something to the table in the way of mechanical ability or whatever. That’s important to the success of this annual event.”
The Ottertail Business Person’s Association organizes the annual Smokin Iron Truck and Tractor Pull.
“This will be our ninth annual Smokin Iron,” said Wagenman. “We’ll be ready for the first night of activities, at 7 p.m. on the 17th, with the truck and tractor pull.”
The starting time will also be 7 p.m. for Saturday, June 18. Gates open at 4 p.m. on Friday and noon on Saturday. There will be many food and beverage vendors to choose from.
Ottertail’s Smokin Iron Truck and Tractor Pull is an official member of the National Tractor Pullers Association (NTPA).
The NTPA sets the standard in the pulling industry for safety and competition rules.
