The Fergus Falls Legion team started its season on a great note sweeping the Moorhead Blues in a double header Thursday evening.

Fergus struggled defensively in game one, but a pair of back-to-back homeruns sparked the Legion to a 6-3 win.

In the fifth inning, Pete Gaustad launched a ball over the fence for a 2-run homer.Tthis was followed by a solo shot by Dan Revering to put the game out of reach.

Gaustad finished the game going 3 for 3 with a homer, a double and 2 RBI, while Revering was 2 for 3 with a homer, double and 3 RBI.

Fergus’ Darin Stanislawski picked up the win as he went all seven innings, recorded 10 Ks and allowed only one earned run.

The Legion’s bats were hot in game two as they defeated the Blues 10-0 in 5 innings.

Gaustad, Stanislawski and Boyden Lee each recorded a homerun in the victory for Fergus. The Legion combined for 11 hits in the game with Stanislawski plating 3 batters.

Gaustad took the win on the mound pitching four no hit innings, before being relieved by Revering, who finished the no hit bid in the fifth.

“In game one, you could tell it was our first day of competition,” said Legion Coach Nick Lewis. “Game two, we swung the bat well, played great defense behind Peter and had some fun on the bases.”

The Fergus Falls Legion will host another pair of games against Detroit Lakes at 5 and 7 p.m. at the Legion Field Saturday.
