A woman received only minor injuries Sunday after her Dodge Ram pickup truck was hit by a train near Richville. Law enforcement gave partial credit for her safety to the fact she was wearing a seatbelt.

Ashley Gordon, 23, of Perham, was driving north on South Marion Drive near Richville shortly before 6 p.m., the sheriff’s office reported. As she attempted to cross some railroad tracks, a train struck her truck on the front left side, rolling the truck into a ditch, where it came to rest on its roof.

Gordon’s two-year-old daughter, who was secured in a child safety harness, was uninjured, and Gordon herself only suffered minor bruising from the seatbelt. She was transported by ambulance to Perham Memorial Hospital for treatment.

Gordon allegedly said she stopped at the crossing and didn’t see or hear a train coming when she drove out. The crossing does not have arms or lights, but it does have a stop sign and railroad crossing sign.
