A New York Mills man was arrested for DWI this morning after he crashed his Pontiac Sunbird into a stream near Rush Lake.

James Wintermeyer, 25, was traveling east on 355th Street, near the intersection with State Highway 78, around 5:20 a.m. today when he lost control of his vehicle, according to the sheriff’s office. He drove into the south ditch, narrowly missing two trees before going into the stream, where his car came to rest in about four feet of water.

Responding deputies believed that alcohol was a factor in the incident, and Wintermeyer was arrested for DWI. He was uninjured, but his car sustained heavy water damage.
