Erhard continues Independence Day traditions

Published 10:46am Friday, July 1, 2011

While many Fourth of July celebrations are all about fireworks and evening festivities, the annual Erhard Fourth of July Festival has a schedule packed with events in the morning and afternoon.

The parade will start at 11 a.m., and the lineup will be at 9 a.m. Joining the parade is as simple as showing up for the lineup. All are welcome, and there are no registration forms required.

“We expect about 130 units in the parade and a turnout of around 6,000,” said Jeanette Ripley, Erhard Fourth of July committee member.

Following the parade will be a live band in the park. Thunder Ridge will play family friendly music from 12 to 5 p.m.

Also beginning at 12 p.m. will be the inflatable games for kids. A $10 wristband will give kids all day access to the inflatables.

“We’re expanding the inflatable games activities this year,” said Ripley. “We want to have games geared toward kids of all ages.”

A horseshoe tournament will start at 2 p.m. There is a $5 admission fee, but all of the money will be given back in prizes for the top finishers.

The raffle will conclude the event at 5 p.m. Raffle tickets can be purchased throughout the day for $2. The raffle is the main source of funding for the celebration, said Ripley.

Below is a schedule of events for the festival.
