Teen arrested after swinging at officerPublished 11:05am Tuesday, July 12, 2011
Fergus Falls police arrested a 17-year-old male after he took a swing at an officer early this morning.
Police reported that several officers were in the area of 2nd Avenue North around 2 a.m. today. They were investigating a report of someone tampering with a car. A witness reported that the person who had tampered with the car was wearing all black clothing.
At the intersection of Summit and Broadway avenues, an officer spotted the 17-year-old who matched the witness description. The officer began speaking to the teen about the incident, but the teen allegedly became combative and ended up trying to punch the officer in the face. The officer moved out of the way and was hit in the back instead.
The teen then led police on a foot chase, which ended when they caught up to him on the 600 block of West Lincoln Avenue. After allegedly struggling with officers again, the teen was taken into custody for fourth degree assault, obstruction of justice, curfew violation and fleeing a peace officer on foot. One officer went to Lake Region Hospital to get checked out for injuries.
Police do not know at this time if the teen was involved in the car tampering.Tags: assault
