City moves forward with local electrical inspection plan [UPDATED]
Published 9:41am Thursday, July 21, 2011 Updated 11:43am Thursday, July 21, 2011Though the state government showed signs of reopening on Monday, the Fergus Falls City Council moved forward with its plan to allow city-approved electrical inspectors.
The council introduced the bill for its first reading on Monday. It was originally proposed last week, when the end to the government shutdown looked far off. Even though the state government has been reopened, the city may continue to move forward with the plan so that electrical inspections can continue in the event of future shutdowns.
“(This ordinance) will be something that will be available to the city in the future,” City Attorney Rolf Nycklemoe said.
The ordinance, which could be enacted no earlier than August 18, would allow the city to authorize local journeyman or master electricians to conduct electrical inspections, so long as they have no personal stake in the project.
