Swenson blogs for runners [UPDATED]
Published 5:51am Tuesday, July 26, 2011 Updated 11:41am Tuesday, July 26, 2011If you were a running enthusiast in Fergus Falls, it could sometimes be hard to find someone that shares the same passion you do about the sport. Finding a training partner or when the next local race would take place could be a daunting task as you scower the internet in search of the next competitive challenge.
Not anymore.
In May, Wade Swenson took it upon himself to create just such a place for local runners to congregate and discuss upcoming events. Swenson produced runfergus.blogspot.com, a blog dedicated to Fergus Falls area runners.
“I initially started the group as a place for people to check and see when the next group long run would be,” said Swenson. “Text messaging just got to be way too confusing.”
The content of the blog has a variety of topics. Individual accomplishments of area runners litter the posts, while articles about injuries, proper running form and different issues that face runners can be found on the site.
The blog, which is updated frequently, has also grown quite a following as it has posted over 4000 visits since debuting less than 3 months ago.
This has helped Swenson turn his running crew from 3 man group including Wes Borowski and Jim Anderson, to adding numerous other regulars and several area runners training for upcoming events.
“On a typical weekend, we usually get 5 to 8 runners in a group,” added Swenson.
Swenson has been running races intermittently for the past 10 years and really started to get serious about events in the past 5 years.
“I enjoy running the local races like Athletic Republic Half Marathon and Fargo Marathon.”
Swenson has also competed internationally as he traveled to Stockholm, Sweden to take part in the 2011 Stockholm Marathon, where he posted a time of 3:34:10.
When he isn’t blogging about running, Swenson trains 4 or 5 days a week with a long run on the weekend. He also swaps in the feel of the road for pedals, biking for additional exercise.
Wade is currently setting his sights on the 2011 Philadelphia Marathon as he and fellow runners Steve Swanson and Josh Tysver will tackle the event in November.
Now with a way to communicate their story with the rest of the world, Swenson and his pals are sure to chronicle their adventure via blog.
