City preps for RTC promo blitz [UPDATED]

RTC advisor Kent Mattson gave the city council a rundown of the advertising going on to let developers know about the RTC’s availability as a development site. The city’s $26,000 contract with ad agency SaleAMP is already getting into full swing, as well it should: the city’s promotional period lasts from this month until Nov. 18, when letters of intent are due to the city from interested parties.
“We hope by Nov. 18 we’ll have some interested parties, some competition,” Mattson said.
The most visible promotion right now is an RTC website, which went live earlier this month at www.fergusfallsrtc.com.
The website gives an overview of the property and provides a place for developers to receive a request for proposals package. It also seeks to emphasize the RTC’s past and unique traits, with the first line of the site’s description reading, “This is your chance to rewrite history.”
The website is only the beginning of the advertising. An expanded website with detailed information on past studies and layouts of the RTC is coming later this month, and search engines will be displaying search-based advertisements. SaleAMP will soon be placing both print and web advertisements in many regional and national developer journals, including banner ads that will soon show up on sites like Land Incorporated and Postlets. Social media advertising on Facebook and LinkedIn will also be part of the mix.
“This is kind of in the development phase, but the main RFP document is live,” Mattson said.
After Nov. 18, developers who sent in letters of intent will have until Feb. 1, 2012 to make final proposals to the city.
