Residents lend their support to Thumper Pond [UPDATED]
Published 9:44am Tuesday, August 16, 2011 Updated 11:45am Tuesday, August 16, 2011Following a half-million dollar expansion, Thumper Pond in Ottertail knows that in order to survive it needs to attract local and area residents as well as customers from other parts of Minnesota and from other states.
On Sunday it was good for Thumper Pond employees to see Clay Houselog of Henning and others from nearby towns use the facilities.
Houselog came to Ottertail and Thumper Pond to play a round of golf.
“This is a beautiful day and a beautiful golf course,” said Houselog, a teacher. “Thumper Pond is a nice facility, and I’m happy to support it.”
People from nearby come not only for the golf. Willy T’s Tavern and Grill is only 13 months old, and others use the water park and other facilities at Thumper Pond. All of this helps the city of Ottertail with economic development.
In the spring of 2010, Thumper Pond Resort was purchased by Madison Hospitality Group of Brainerd.
A resurgence at Thumper Pond was pledged by the new owners and the 150 other employees who work at the complex in Ottertail.
And while the most significant change in the past several months was renovation of the restaurant and tavern, improvements also were made to the golf course and water park.
Madison Hospitality Group is running an aggressive marketing campaign to attract customers.
Prior to Willy T’s Tavern and Grill, the dining area at Thumper Pond was called the Red Pine Restaurant, and the bar upstairs was referred to as the Eagle View Lounge.
The patio adjacent to the restaurant and tavern is a real hit, overlooking the 18h green. Thumper Pond management says people really love dining outside this time of year.
