A 39-year-old Fergus Falls man was arrested after he allegedly robbed the Holiday gas station on South Union Avenue early this morning while wearing a gorilla mask and brandishing a butcher knife.
Police were called today around 12:45 a.m. by a Holiday employee, who reported that the masked man had entered the building, threatened him with the knife and stole an unspecified amount of cash. When officers arrived, the employee gave a more detailed description of the burglar’s physical appearance.
Shortly thereafter, a police officer saw a man matching the burglar’s description running in the area of Court Street and Washington Avenue.
The man, later identified as Robert Allen Higgins, allegedly engaged in a brief foot chase before officers caught him.
After Higgins did not comply with officer commands, he was tasered, police reported.
After Higgins was subdued, officers allegedly found the stolen money and a 10-inch long butcher knife on his person.
They also found a gorilla mask nearby.
Higgins was arrested for aggravated armed robbery.
Higgins is also currently being prosecuted for alleged involvement in the Operation: Spring Cleanup drug bust. Court records allege that he sold marijuana in front of his 3-year-old daughter.Tags: robbery
