Arena on track to open MondayPublished 10:54am Thursday, October 20, 2011
If all goes well today, there could be skating in the new Fergus Falls practice ice arena on Monday.
City staff were in the process of making ice at the practice facility this morning, according to Public Works Director Anne Martens.
“Our goal is to have it ready for usage by Monday morning,” Martens said. “We’re hopeful.”
The Fergus Falls Figure Skating Club is scheduled to start figure skating practice in the new community ice arena for advanced figure skaters at 5:45 a.m. Monday, with the basic skills – learn to skate class at 7:15 p.m., basic skills director Heather Dirkman reported today. The club’s original start date was pushed back because of a leak in the arena’s refrigeration system.
“We were supposed to start Oct. 17, so just a little bit behind,” Dirkman said, adding, “There’s still areas under construction, but it’s going to be new and exciting being able to skate in the new rink.”
The main arena is scheduled to be ready by mid-November.
Martens emphasized that parking for the ice arena facility, located at 340 Friberg Ave., will be located in the Roosevelt Education Center (former high school) lot next to the levy. The north lot, located along Randolph Avenue, is closed, Martens said.Tags: ice arena
