COLD SPRING —Fergus Falls seniors Zach Haus and Haylie Zenner advanced to state at the Section 8AA Cross Country Meet on Thursday night.

Haus led the Otters on the last meet as a team for the year. The boys team placed seventh out of 16 teams, failing to make the top-two team cut for state.

Haus placed first for the Otters and eighth overall with a time of 16:27.9, which will bring him down to the state meet. The Otters’ second-fastest runner was Connor Danielson, who crossed in 25th place with a time of 17:20.1. Rounding out Fergus Falls’ top three was Sam Wasberg who placed 39th overall with a time of 17:39.6.

“The boys did a great job today,” said Head Otters Coach Randy Hansen. “Sam Wasberg and Billy Eerdmans, along with Zach, did a great job leading this group and have shown the younger guys what can be accomplished by training hard.”

Haus will be the only Otter boy moving on and competing at state. That meet, which will host the boys and girls competition, takes place on Saturday, Nov. 5 at St. Olaf College.

Zenner captured seventh place, netting her a state berth with a time of 14:46.5. As a team, the Otters placed ninth out of 16 teams. Annie Magnusson was the Otters’ second-best runner, finishing 35th overall with a time of 16:02.0. Rounding out the top three for the Otters was Paige Larson, in 56th place with a time of 16:40.0.

“As a team we really ran well today, responding well to the race,” stated Head Girls Otter Coach Niki Welde. “The hard work these girls put into their season paid off today.”
