Main rink on schedule for Nov. 16 opening

The main rink of the new community ice arena in Fergus Falls is on schedule to open on Nov. 16, City Engineer Dan Edwards said at Monday’s city council meeting.

Though the rink will be usable and skating on it will be possible, a heated observation deck overlooking the rink will not yet be done. Contractors will continue work on the observation deck when the arena is not in use.

The arena fundraising committee is also looking into adding larger, nicer windows on the second floor overlooking Circle Drive. The funds to add the windows would come entirely through donations, and if the city approves being the fiscal host for the addition, the work would be done next summer.

The grand opening celebration for the community arena is scheduled for Nov. 20 from 1 to 4 p.m.
