Giving thanks at the libraryPublished 11:56am Friday, November 25, 2011
Last week, I wrote about all the ways customers use the Fergus Falls Public Library.
This week, in honor of the Thanksgiving holiday, I would like to thank each of you that make the great programs and services we offer possible.
Thank you to our library staff. We have 12 library employees and each one of them is instrumental to the success of the library. Our library staff does everything from cleaning the restrooms to checking out books, to answering in-depth customer questions, to creating and presenting one of the more than 300 programs we offer each year. We’re a great team, but we also couldn’t do it without our volunteers.
Thank you to our volunteers. Volunteers help make the library go ‘round in many ways. Volunteers help us make sure the books are in the correct order on the shelves and help us get new books ready to go out onto the shelves. The Friends of the Fergus Falls Public Library, a non-profit 501c3 organization, helps the library by holding a variety of annual fundraisers, including the holiday “Festival of Wreaths” silent auction. By the way, the book-themed, decorated wreaths will be on display and open for bids in the library’s Jean Dahling meeting room beginning Dec. 3 and running through Dec. 10. Bid early and often. All proceeds of Friends of the Library fundraisers benefit library programs and services. If you are interested in volunteering or joining the Friends of the Library, stop by the library to pick up an application.
Thank you to our Library Board. Thank you to the six individuals, including our City Council liaison, who make up the Fergus Falls Public Library Board.
Board members work tirelessly to help make the library a better place. The Board helps city and library administration identify community needs, promote and grow library services, and encourages innovation.
If you are interested in serving on the Library Board, please call or stop by the library for more information. Thank you, also, to city staff and to the Fergus Falls City Council for your support and governance of library services, resources and programs.
Last, but most definitely not least, thank you to the citizens of Fergus Falls, Otter Tail County and Minnesota, in general, for your support of libraries.
At the library, our mission is to connect people, information and ideas to promote lifelong learning, literacy development, and community involvement to assure the best quality of life. The library exists to serve your lifelong learning and recreation needs, as well as those of your fellow community members.
A heart-felt thank you, once again, and always for your support!
Erin Smith, Library Director, Fergus Falls Public Library
