Man arrested after car chase

A man who fled law enforcement in a vehicle just across the Otter tail County line in Todd County, near Hewitt, is in custody. Arrested Wednesday was Wade Moenkedick of rural Bertha.

Just before 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, A Todd County deputy attempted a traffic stop. The individual, known not to have a valid driver’s license, fled northbound in his vehicle north of Hewitt along Highway 71. The individual eventually stopped a few miles later but then fled again after backing into a squad car and causing extensive damage.

The suspect was then located by other Todd County deputies, and the pursuit continued.

Moenkedick was taken into custody along County Road 23, south of State Highway 210. He is in the Todd County Detention Center, awaiting formal charges.

The Wadena County Sheriff’s Office, Henning Police Department, Eagle Bend Police Department, State Patrol and Bertha Ambulance assisted.
