Gifts have lasting benefits
Published 11:37am Monday, November 28, 2011Another generous gift to the District 544 Dollars for Scholars Foundation, which in turn has given out hundreds of thousands of dollars in scholarships to graduating seniors each year since 1992, should be applauded, but we encourage others to consider such gifts themselves.
The late Henry “Hank” and Elizabeth “Sis” Cowles left a legacy of money, which those who oversee the endowment funds, have given to the Fergus Falls Public Library and Dollars for Scholars — both which benefit children and overall, the community.
Other people considering how to distribute their wealth upon their death might consider leaving a generous portion to similar programs as Dollars for Scholars.
When one thinks about the good that can be accomplished by such endowments, it seems a most appropriate way to honor the dead far into the future. What a lasting legacy.
