The WCA Knights played their second top ten state ranked team in the past week as they competed well but fell 59-77 to the #10 ranked Browerville Tigers.
The Knights took an early lead but went into a scoring drought and trailed by as many as 30-13 before coming back to within 41-29 at the half.
The Knights hit a 3-pointer to start the second half to pull within 41-32 and cut it as close as 54-49 at the six minute mark of the game. Browerville then went on an 11-0 run to lead 65-49.
“Browerville is another solid ball club,” said Knight Coach Kraig Hunter. “All five starters go 6’2 to 6’5 and they are very physically strong. However, I am very proud of our team tonight. We competed very hard and battled every possession. We are starting to do more things well each night.”
The Knights worked hard enough to outrebound the bigger Tigers 30-28 and had 19 turnovers to Browerville’s 13. Browerville hit 29-58 field goals for 50% including 9-19 from 3-point range. They hit 10-19 free throws.
Meanwhile, the Knights only hit 21-51 field goals for 41% including 8-19 on 3-point shots for 42%. The Knights hit 9-17 free throws for 52%.
Mitch Heid led the Tigers 3-point attack hitting 6-10 3′s. Heid led the Tigers with 23 points, 5 assists, and 4 steals. Seth Kellen added 20 points, 6 rebounds, and 6 assists. Seth Christenson had a double double with 14 points and 11 rebounds.
Matt Wagner led the Knights with 17 points, Drew Peterson was all over the floor again with 15 points, 7 rebounds, 8 assists, and 3 steals. Dakotah Kashmark was also in double figures with 15 points and added 3 assists.
