Knights win in Overtime

The WCA Knights travelled to Swanville on Monday night and pulled off a 77-75 overtime win. “Things didn’t look good many times late in the game, but we kept making plays when we needed to and found a way to win,” said Knight Coach Kraig Hunter.

The Knights found themselves in an early hole again 14-4 and then outscored the Bulldogs 34-21 the rest of the half to take a 38-35 halftime lead.

The lead exchanged hands several times in the second half as neither team could pull away. Swanville finally took a 54-49 lead with about nine minutes to play. The Knights then used a flurry of 3-pointers along with some steals to go on a 15-8 run taking a 64-62 lead. The Knights had several chances to ice the game with free throws and a break away lay-up but came up short and regulation ended with a 68-68 tie.

The took the lead and then lost it again with under a minute to play but executed on the offensive end to take the lead by one 76-75 with under thirty seconds left in overtime. The Knights then got a defensive stop and hit one more free throw sealing a 77-75 win.

Hunter added, “Even though we could have put this game away several times and things looked bleak, I thought our guys got several key defensive stops when we needed them and then executed on offense whenever we really needed to score. I am happy with the poise and composure we had in the last ten minutes of this game.”

Leaders for the Knights were Dakotah Kashmark with 21 points and 5 assists, Matt Wagner 16, Christian Thomasy with 12 points and 12 rebounds, Jeff Martinson with 11 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, and 4 steals, and Drew Peterson with 8 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 assists.
