Comets dominate Rothsay 64-24Published 10:49am Wednesday, December 14, 2011
The Hillcrest Comets boys basketball team moved their record to 2-1 with a 64-24 win vs. the Rothsay Tigers on Tuesday at the Comets’ home gym.
“Hillcrest did a great job of setting the tone early with their typical half court, intense defense,” said Rothsay’s Darren Rogness. “We still need to cut down on the turnovers and continue to look for better possessions on the offensive end of the court.”
Rothsay’s Brett Brenden had eights points and seven rebounds and Aaron Brenden added six points in the setback.
“Brett had a nice game for us tonight pulling down seven boards and scoring eight points. Aaron also played well on the inside,” said Rogness.
The Comets made 24 field goals out of 57 tries. They went 10-for-16 from the charity stripe. Rothsay only shot 30 percent (11-for-36).
Comet Daniel Nersten led the Comets with a game-high 21 points and four rebounds. Teammate Taylor Isaac scored 12 and Jake Isaac scored seven points.
“Daniel Nersten and Taylor Isaac both played really well for the Comets,” said Rogness.
Rothsay (0-3) will travel to Hancock on Friday, while Hillcrest ventures out to Battle Lake on Thursday night.
