The WCA Knights Andrew Asleson scored a basket to end the first half and helped give the Knights a six point lead at 32-26. The Knights came out and put the game away early in the second half and built their biggest lead at 57-38 enrout to a 73-62 win over the Royalton Royals.

 

Knight Coach Kraig Hunter said, “This was our best effort of the year. Royalton is a good team and was 4-1 coming into today so it was a nice win. Having four days in a row to practice really showed with our improvement in several areas today. Once again we were scrappy on defense but we really improved on crisp passing and offensive execution. We were very unselfish which led to a lot of open looks. We are extremely proud of our players for the effort and poise they played with today.

 

The Knights shot 56% (24-43) including 7 of 13 3-pointers for 54% while Royalton shot 46% (35-56) and 10-27 for 37% on 3-pointers. The Knights hit 18-22 free throws for 82% while the Royals hit only 2-10 for 20%.

 

The rebounding battle had the Knights at 28 and the Royals at 22. The Knights had 14 turnovers to 16 for the Royals.

 

The Knights had good balance in scoring with Jeff Martinson (19), Matt Wagner (14), Drew Peterson (14), Dakotah (12) all in double figures while Andrew Asleson and Christian Thomasy both added 6 point apiece and Brady Combs rounded out the scoring with 2.

 

Luke Wentland led the Royals with 27 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists, and 5 steals.
