Elroy V. Maack, 84, of Elizabeth

Elroy Maack, died Friday, Dec. 30, 2011, at PioneerCare Center in Fergus Falls.

He was born on Jan. 24, 1927, the youngest of 11 children, to Ferdinand and Anna (Stroschein) Maack in Oscar Township of Otter Tail County.

He was baptized, confirmed and married in St. John Lutheran Church of Elizabeth by Rev. George Grabarkewitz. He attended school in District 61, graduated from Rothsay High School and then attended Wahpeton State School of Science.

He joined the National Guard and was activated in 1950, with the 47th Viking Division, Co, 5th RCT. and served in the Korean Conflict.

On Oct. 16, 1953, he married Mary Lou Griepentrog at St. John Lutheran Church in Elizabeth. The couple made their home in Elizabeth.

For many years Elroy worked at the Fergus Falls Regional Treatment Center as a LPN retiring in 1985.

He was a member of St. John Church serving in various offices, the American Legion Post 25, the VFW Post 612, the Disabled American Veterans, and the Ranger Infantry Company Airborne.

He was a member of the Local Union 735, also a member of the State Employees Retirement Association.

He did volunteer driving for the Fergus Falls Red Cross Van and was also on the Elizabeth Fire Department.

Hobbies include hunting, fishing, trapping, gardening and raising tulips.

His family includes his wife Mary Lou; and two children, a son, Wesley of Blaine, and a daughter, Debra (Roger) Jorgenson of Rothsay; two grandchildren, Carissa and Nathan Maack of Coon Rapids; a sister, Helen (Howard) Hamlin of Leowood, Kansas; a brother, Harold Maack of Babbitt; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Preceding him in death were his parents; one son, Steven; four sisters, Marie Boese, Ethel Salmon, La Verne Overland and Fern Seeyle; and four brothers, Walter, Ernest, Alvin and Max.

Visitation: Wednesday from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at the funeral home, and one hour prior to the service at the church

Service: 11 a.m. Thursday, at Faith Lutheran Church, Fergus Falls

Clergy: Revs. Craig Palach and Wallace Larson

Burial: St. John Lutheran Cemetery, Elizabeth. Reception following the service in Brenny Hall in Elizabeth
