It’s been a good deal for everyone since a machine shop and a repair shop joined up in Underwood.

In May 2011, Brian Huseth of Brian’s Repair in Underwood bought Northland Rebuilding in Dalton. Northland Rebuilding then moved to Underwood, adjacent to Brian’s Repair.

“Anyone can come,” said Huseth of the buyout’s advantages. The machine shop elements of Brian’s Repair, he said, mesh perfectly with Northland Rebuilding’s sensibilities, creating a kind of one-stop shop for many customers.

Huseth purchased Northland Rebuilding from long-time owner Jerry Fietek in May.

Fietek, who sold to Huseth instead of other companies in order to keep the business local, has stayed on to help oversee the Northland Rebuilding side and to operate as a sales manager for the combined business.

“A lot of customers have followed us over,” said Fietek.

The two described the merger as the perfect marriage. Brian’s Repair focuses on quality machine work, fabricating and welding, using specialized equipment like a drive shaft balancer and a U-joint separator and installer to complete jobs the way the customer wants. He also tackles repairs to large trucks and other heavy equipment, with capabilities for radiator repair and some automotive work. Northland Rebuilding specializes in starters, alternators and generators.

Though the businesses have merged, Huseth said customers can expect his three core business principles — quality, customer service and image — to remain intact.

“We go out of the way to make it right,” Huseth commented.

“We think this is almost a perfect fit,” Fietek said.

Brian’s Repair and Northland Rebuilding are located at 20486 County Highway 119 in Underwood. They can be reached at 826-6560.
