Couple arrested for gun, drug crimes
Published 10:56am Thursday, January 19, 2012Last week was a harrowing one for a Vergas couple as their son and daughter-in-law were arrested on different days after allegedly showing up at their home unstable and under the influence of methamphetamine.
Jessica Ann Anderson, 30, of Detroit Lakes, has been charged with fifth degree drug possession. Her husband, Ira James Anderson, of an unknown address, was charged a few days later with possessing a pistol after a violent crime conviction.
The couple’s run-ins with the law began on Jan. 11, when a sheriff’s deputy responded to a home on Lands End Road, court records state. The woman who called said that the Andersons had arrived at the residence and that Jessica appeared to be on methamphetamine. When the woman had gone outside, Jessica was allegedly lying on the ground near her car, not wearing shoes or a jacket and screaming about a kidnapping conspiracy. She allegedly behaved in other erratic ways before a deputy arrived.
While the deputy was en route, records state, he saw Jessica walking north on County Highway 35, waving her arms, talking to herself and not wearing a coat in the 10-degree weather. The deputy took her to his car, where she said that some people (including her husband Ira) were trying to kidnap her. She was later arrested when methamphetamine was allegedly found in a coat she’d left with her in-laws.
Ira Anderson was arrested on Jan. 14, after his parents allegedly told law enforcement he was high on methamphetamine and had a gun in their home. Ira allegedly called his parents the night before and told them he was afraid of kidnapping or death via the Aryan Brotherhood.
The next day, Ira allegedly continued his bizarre behavior in his parents’ home and showed them his handgun. Deputies arrived around 3 p.m. and arrested him at gunpoint.
Though they were unable to find the gun during a search of the surrounding area, the deputies did find some .9 millimeter shell casings, including one that appeared to have been recently fired.
Ira has a long rap sheet, with convictions for assault, burglary, controlled substance and more.
