At least one person was injured Monday in a three-car accident on the east side of Otter Tail County.

At 10:45 a.m. on U.S. Highway 10, east of Bluffton, a Chevrolet Impala driven east by Philip Vaughn, 23, of New York Mills, swerved to avoid a vehicle making a left turn.

The Impala drove into the westbound lanes and hit a Ford Expedition driven by Christina Spiering, 27, of New York Mills. The Impala then went back into the eastbound lanes and was hit by a Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by Denton Jacobs, 83, of St. Cloud.

Spiering was treated and released from Tri-County Hospital in Wadena. The State Patrol has not released Vaughn’s condition or whether he was injured at all. No one else was hurt.

The accident was one of four that happened on U.S. Highway 10 in various counties on Monday.

In addition to the U.S. Highway 10 accident, the county sheriff’s office dealt with seven other accidents throughout the county, including three near Ottertail City. No one was hurt in any of the accidents, but the sheriff’s office urged drivers to be careful in icy conditions and to drive at speeds appropriate to the circumstances.

One of the accidents happened on the outskirts of Fergus Falls, when a woman lost control of her vehicle on County Highway 1 near Red Sox Park and hit a tree.

You can keep telling people to slow down, but they won’t listen. I always say, slow down, death comes fast enough. Luckily no one was killed.
