The Ashby Arrows used their size and athleticism to down the West Central Area Knights 68-55 in Ashby Monday evening, but not without a valiant fight from the fiesty Knights.
The Arrows took a 40-28 lead into halftime, but struggled to put the game away while only outscoring the Knights 28-27 in the second half.
“I thought we did a lot of things well tonight,” said Ashby head coach Jeremy Knick. “Anytime you come away with a win you are pleased.”
Leaders for the Arrows were Blake Ohren with 20 points, five rebounds, four steals and three blocks; Riley Mickelson with 19 points, 16 rebounds and five blocks; J.P. Moe with 12 points and two steals; Tanner Langlie with eight points and 12 rebounds; Mason Johnson with five points and five rebounds; and Jon Quernemoen with four points.
WCA Knight Coach Kraig Hunter said that Ashby is a very talented team.
“They have size, super athletes, shooters and quickness,” said Hunter. “Coach Knick has them playing well. However, we’re pleased with the effort our kids gave. We were giving up a whopping 32 inches in height with our five starters. We battled hard and executed pretty well.”
Dakotah Kashmark led the Knights with 16 points and Matt Wagner had 15.
Ashby shot 45 percent from the field, making 30 of 67 attempts. WCA shot 40 percent, connecting on 19 of 47 from the field.
The Arrows host Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley this evening. WCA will host Eagle Valley Thursday evening.
