County sponsors grant application for Vergas [UPDATED]
Published 9:35am Thursday, January 26, 2012 Updated 11:36am Thursday, January 26, 2012The county board Tuesday agreed to be the sponsor for the city of Vergas’ efforts to obtain funding for reconstructing Town Line Road along the city’s east side. Town Line Road runs from County Highway 36 to Scharf Avenue.
The city is applying for funding through the Minnesota Department of Transportation’s Local Road Improvement Program (LRIP).
The Minnesota State Legislature previously approved the Rural Road Safety Account of LRIP. Funds are used to assist counties, cities, townships and other local agencies in paying the costs of constructing or reconstructing local road safety projects with statewide or regional significance.
Criteria for submitting project applications include those that eliminate safety related deficiencies. Each project also must include use of a strategy from the Minnesota Comprehensive Highway Safety Plan.
The program is designed for rural Minnesota areas, such as Otter Tail County. The eight metro counties are not eligible for this funding.
