Monke, Jones AAA finalists
Published 10:57am Tuesday, January 31, 2012Fergus Falls seniors Mariah Monke and Dominic Jones were honored for their academic achievements and extracurricular activities this week.
They competed against seniors in all 16 Section 8AA schools. Jones finished second and Monke third. The winners were Samuel Kuss of Rocori and Heidi Nelson of Detroit Lakes.
These two now advance to state competition against other section winners.
Jones is a three-sport athlete for the Otters. He participates in soccer, swimming, and track and field. In the Fine Arts, he is in choir, orchestra, and band. He hopes to attend North Dakota State University and major in mechanical engineering.
Monke is a three-sport athlete for the Otters. She participates in volleyball, basketball and softball. She is in the choir. She will attend the University of Wisconsin Green Bay on a scholarship to play Division 1 basketball. She will major in education and mathematics.
In order to qualify academically, all participants must have a 3.0 GPA.
Both Monke and Jones and their families will attend a AAA banquet in Brainerd at Cragun’s Resort on Sunday, March 4.
