George William Mattfeld , age 90, of Ottertail

George Mattfeld, died Monday, Jan. 30, 2012, at Perham Living in Perham, where he has resided since 2010.

George was born on Feb. 17, 1921, at home in Gorman Township in rural Perham. His parents were the late Henry August and Alice Leona (Greiff) Mattfeld.

On May 15, 1945, George married Alice Emelia Koennicke at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Perham. Their marriage

was blessed with four children.

George and Alice made their home in Pine Lake Township, where they farmed until retiring in 1994.

In 1995, they moved to their new home on Rush Lake where they enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, family and friends, and also hosted many card games.

He served as president of the AAL for 25 years.

George and Alice enjoyed traveling, especially the two fishing trips with family to Lac Seul, Canada, and a trip to Hawaii.

George will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his brothers, Clarence, Lester, Edward, Edwin, Henry, Joseph and William; sisters, Laura and Edna; brothers-in-law, Wayne Mitchell and Warren Krueger; and a granddaughter, Lynn Marie Davis.

George is survived by Alice, his lovely wife of 66 years; daughters, Cindy (Bob) Davis of Ottertail, Kay (Howard) Imsande of Brainerd; Kari (Rick) Anderson of Brainerd; a son, Richard (Betty)

Mattfeld of Underwood; 11 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. a brother, Alvin (Margaret) Mattfeld of New York Mills; sisters, Helen Krueger of Perham, Gladys (Henry) Ramus of New York Mills, Ardene (Bill) Bartness of Puyallup, Wash.; a sister-in-law, Harriet Mattfeld of Perham; and many other relatives and friends.

Visitation: Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m., at Karvonen and Son Funeral Home, New York Mills

Service: 11 a.m. Friday, at Trinity Lutheran Church, New York Mills
