Sixty kids are now walking the streets with cool new haircuts thanks to the stylists at The RaZor’s Edge Salon, located at 1742 College Way in Fergus Falls. Owner Denette Drexler and her stylists at the salon came up with a way to help people out and to promote their salon.

“With the economy being what it is, we really wanted to let people know that we are happy to help and work with kids,” Drexler said. “It is very important that the parents who brought their little ones into us this last week know that we really appreciate them.”

Drexler, who has 22 years of experience and a hair degree from St. Cloud Beauty School, opened The RaZor’s Edge Salon two years ago. “I feel like even though it’s been two years, people still don’t know that we are here and what we offer to our clients,” Drexler said. “That’s why we decided to do something like this, giving free hair cuts to kids.”

Drexler said she finds that some parents call the salon to set up a appointment for themselves, and they quickly apologize when they say they have to bring their kids with.

“I know so many kids who are afraid to get their hair cut,” she added. “Either they have had a bad experience or they haven’t had any experience at all. We really are here to help kids become comfortable with the sounds and surroundings, so they can have a good experience.”

The salon even has a play area set up with toys, Legos and coloring supplies.

Drexler has three beauticians and a nail design artist who work at the salon. The RaZor’s Edge just started a new program to host kids’ birthday parties. Each birthday party will include a minimum of four haircuts and manicures.

“I know I like being pampered and feeling pretty, and so do little girls,” said Drexler.
