Rothsay snaps 44 game losing streak

Forty-four games.

That’s how many contests the Rothsay Tigers boys basketball team has lost, until Friday night, when they defeated the Underwood Rockets. The Tigers won 55-43 in Underwood in a Little Eight Conference matchup.

“This was a complete team effort and a much needed win for these boys,” said Rothsay’s coach Darren Rogness. “We’ve worked so hard on our defense and looking for quality shots (on offense) and it came together tonight. The boys did a nice job controlling the tempo of the game and taking care of the basketball all night.”

Tiger Brett Brenden topped all scorers with 21. He was 7 out of 9, and went 7 for 8 from the free-throw line. Teammate Dexter Aaberg recorded 14 points and Brenden added 12 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double.

“Brett played outstanding, getting to the basket and loose balls,” said Rogness. “Aaron came off the bench and played a strong game at both ends of the floor and the boards.”

Noah Brenden scored two points for the Tigers.

“Again, this win wasn’t possible without everyone’s contribution,” said Rogness.

Steffan Stroh scored 13 points and Zane Lind 12 for the Rockets. Both Stroh and Lind recorded seven rebounds apiece.

Chase Collins had six points for Underwood and Justin Hanson and Adam Creek both added four points.

Underwood (5-15 overall, 4-7 in the conference) will host Barnesville on Tuesday and Rothsay (1-19, 1-10) will host N.Y. Mills.
