Henning principal, AD may take Polar Plunge Friday

Thomas Williams, Henning School principal knows how it will feel if on Saturday, Feb. 25, he takes a Polar Plunge at Lutheran Island Camp, East Battle Lake. He’s entered the icy waters previously, and will do so again if the post-prom committee raises $400 by Friday.

A person who may take the plunge for the first time is Henning Activities Director Randy Misegades.

“If you’re a bit drowsy before you take the plunge, you won’t feel that way when you enter the cold water,” said Williams. “What surprised me, previously, was that taking the plunge really tires you out. Later in the day I fell asleep much earlier than normal.”

The theme for the post-prom fundraiser is “Freezin’ for a reason.” Donation boxes are in place at the Henning school and people also can donate by getting contributions to First National Bank in Henning, Willow Creek Assisted Living or by contacting Michelle Richter at 218-639-5093.

If he needs to take the Polar Plunge, Williams said, he also will wear a dress for the special occasion. Taking that a step further, he said he’d probably wear makeup and don a wig.

“I’d take it the whole nine yards,” said Williams.

All of the money that is raised, even after the Polar Plunge, will benefit the Henning High School Post Prom that will be held at Thumper Pond in Ottertail.

Lutheran Island Camp and Retreat Center is located on a secluded 67 acres surrounded by East Battle Lake. The camp is located about 10 miles west of Henning. It will be a busy place on Saturday if Williams and Misegades are there to enter the icy waters.
