Tim Olson has been all over the nation in a wide variety of positions working for the YMCA. His new job will bring him north, to Fergus Falls.
On Wednesday, Chris Marvel, president of the 18-person board of directors, announced that Olson will take over as executive director, starting on Monday, April 30.
Olson was previously the CEO/executive director of the Marshall Area YMCA. He supervised several employees, while being in charge of a nearly $1.5 million operation.
He replaces Ron Raasch, who finished his 14-year career at the Fergus Falls Y earlier this year.
Olson is excited to move to the Fergus Falls area, and lead the local YMCA, said Marvel, adding that his experience, energy and enthusiasm was the reason for his selection.
Chad Felstul, a fellow board member, said Olson had the necessary skills to take over the powerful operation.
“We were thoroughly impressed with his background and leadership,” he said. “He was able to develop a relationship with the hospital in Marshall, which was beneficial to the Marshall Y. He has some new and exciting ideas for our Y.”
A big thing that stood out for Felstul was Olson’s emphasis on wellness in his work.
“We want Fergus to be a leader of wellness in the region,” said Felstul. “It’s vital to partner with the hospital, school, county and other entities to ensure that happens.”
Before Marshall, Olson was the associate executive director of the Garden Ranch Family YMCA in Colorado Springs, Colo. He was employed by two Arizona Ys: Phoenix and Scottsdale. He also worked for YMCAs in Bismarck and Minot, N.D.
Olson earned a bachelor of science degree in corporate fitness from Minot State in 1999.
