Man accused of sex with teen [UPDATED]

A 20-year-old Pelican Rapids man made his first court appearance Monday for allegedly having sex with a girl in her early teens.

Ernesto Mendoza-Reyna Jr. has been charged with third and fourth degree criminal sexual conduct. Both counts specify that the contact was with a teenager who was younger than 16 years of age.

In January, the Pelican Rapids School District informed police that Mendoza had recently had sex with a Pelican Rapids student, court records state. During an interview with the student, police learned that the two had allegedly had sex in November at his home.
