Two hurt in Dalton ATV accident

Two Dalton men were injured Sunday afternoon when their four-wheeler collided with a pickup truck on a private field road north of County Highway 26, in Aastad Township, the county sheriff’s office reported.

Alan Pikop, 68, of Elbow Lake, was northbound on the road in his truck shortly before 4:30 p.m.

As he was driving on a hill, he met the ATV, driven by John Pikop, 29, of Dalton. The vehicles attempted evasive action, but they sideswiped each other, lighting the ATV on fire and heavily damaging the truck.

John Pikop and his passenger, Robert Westby, 42, of Dalton, quickly got off the ATV, but the sheriff’s office reported that they did suffer what appeared to be non-life threatening injuries.

They were taken by ambulance to Lake Region Hospital.
