FF police station bid 4 percent under budget
Published 11:12am Wednesday, March 28, 2012The low bid for the new public safety facility in Fergus Falls came in about four percent under budget, architect David Shultz told the city’s finance committee this morning.
At the finance committee meeting, members recommended that the council accept a bid from Ebert Construction, of Corcoran, for $3.55 million. The construction budget for the project is $3.71 million. Between the budgeted contingency fund and the additional funds saved by the bid, the city now has a contingency fund of $343,731 on the project.
In all, eight contractors submitted bids to the city. Ebert Construction had the second lowest base bid, but when the city factored in the estimated costs of 10 optional elements, or “add alternates,” Ebert came in the cheapest.
The timeline for the police station still calls for an early summer start on construction and a building opening in May or June of 2013.
