Fergus Falls’ senior Zach Rengel not only had a stellar year for the Otters on the court, he also performed well in the classroom.

He was one of 24 players selected to the 3A/4A Academic All-Academic Boys Basketball Team, presented by the Minnesota Basketball Coaches Association.

Other local players honored were: Casey Bruggeman, Pelican Rapids; Alex Ukkelberg, Battle Lake; Jordan Cresap, Perham and Adam Snelgrove, New York Mills all landed on the 1A/2A team.

All sophomores, juniors and seniors, who earn at least a 3.5 GPA in core classes and start for their varsity team are eligible for an award.

The committee also gives strong consideration to the players’ accomplishments with his team, and overall stats.

Ukkelberg’s Battlers were named the Class A State Academic Team Champions. Cresap’s Yellowjackets were selected as the Class AA Class A State Academic Team Champions.

Both teams won their respective Section Academic Team Champions.

Dave Cresap, Perham’s leader, shared the Section 8AA co-Coach of the Year honor with Bagley’s head basketball coach Chuck Anderson.

Robb Flint, whose Detroit Lakes Lakers advanced to their first state tourney since 1918, was named the Section 8AAA Coach of the Year.

Rocori’s Bob Brink was picked as the Section 5AAA Coach of the Year.
