The tourney game that everyone hoped for, between the Pelican Rapids Vikings and Perham Yellowjackets in Section 8AA, will take place at 8 p.m. Tuesday evening at Minnesota State University, Moorhead. This will be the section boys basketball semifinals.

Pelican Rapids advanced with a 75-47 win over the Breckenridge Cowboys Saturday evening at Concordia College in Moorhead. Perham advanced after defeating Hawley 55-38.

The Yellowjacket boys, defending state champions, defeated Hawley in the second game of Section 8AA action Saturday at Concordia.

“A Pelican-Perham matchup in section play is what players and fans both wanted,” said Pelican Rapids coach Brad Strand. “This will be a great atmosphere for basketball Tuesday evening.”

Pelican Rapids sophomore guard Ryan Bruggeman led his team with 22 points Saturday. His brother, senior guard Casey Bruggeman, was one point behind at 21 points. Ryan had 14 points in the first half and Casey had 19 of his points before intermission.

Contributing eight points each for Perham were senior guard Jordan Cresap and junior guard Jacob Anderson.

The two teams were even with rebounding, at 21 each. The difference in the game was in shooting percentage. Perham was 21 of 37, for 57 percent from the field. Hawley connected on 11 of 37 shots, for 29 percent.
