Brothers Trent and Darrin Froemming, who own TFC Poultry in Ashby, continually work on enhancements to their business. A case in point is a purchase, about two months ago, of an automatic crop remover used in processing of chickens.
The new unit operates at all line speeds with any bird size. The crop remover drastically reduces labor costs by replacing repetitive manual crop removal. There’s an enclosed cabinet for safety, spray containment and easy cleaning. A vacuum option reduces clavicle bone damage.
“Contracts provide consistent, year-around work for our 50 employees,” said Darrin Froemming on Thursday, March 29, while displaying the new automatic crop remover.
Trent and Darrin take pride in homegrown poultry and custom processing at TFC Poultry in Ashby. They’ve owned and operated the business since May 2008.
“We advertise ‘Your Satisfaction Guaranteed’ and we really mean that,” said Trent. “Darrin and I grew up on a farm near Garfield and we’ve raised chickens for many years, starting with 4-H projects.”
In addition to chickens, they process pheasants, ducks, geese and turkeys at TFC Poultry along Melby Avenue on the southeast side of downtown Ashby. They have capabilities for many different cutup and packaging options.
In addition to processing, TFC in Ashby also has a country store at street level that offers farm fresh eggs, brats, general meat items, frozen foods and other items. The brothers own all of the equipment at their poultry center in Ashby.
A majority of the operations consist of processing spent hens. As reported in Ag Week, spent hens are egg-laying hens beyond their useful, economic life.
In addition, TFC works with two organic broiler companies that display their product in both retail and food service nationwide.
