Movie still on track to be filmed at Regional Treatment Center
Published 11:25am Thursday, April 5, 2012Work on a movie shot at the Regional Treatment Center is moving along, according to director Eric Dunn, chairman of Montana-based independent film company ECTOFi Productions.
In the last few months since the December 2011 open casting call in Fergus Falls for the film, ECTOFi has been busy approving a film and script. The film the company came up with is called “Geist” – a psychological thriller that will be shot primarily in the Kirkbride building.
“It’s a story of a man who wakes up in a (mental institution) and doesn’t know how he ended up there,” said Dunn.
As the man tries to piece together the past, a group of paranormal investigators shows up to deal with the rumored ghosts of children who were murdered in the building.
“It takes a couple of twists and turns from that point,” said Dunn.
Dunn and ECTOFi will be holding callbacks from the film this month. Though a few out-of-the-area actors will be involved in the project (famous Johnny Depp impersonator and actor Danny Lopez is confirmed, said Dunn), the rest of the cast will be made up of people who showed up for the casting call.
The shooting schedule is currently up in the air. Dunn had made arrangements with potential developer Atul Wahi, but after Wahi’s RTC proposal was rejected by the city council on Monday, the production will need to work cost and timelines out with the city to shoot this summer. Dunn is hoping to shoot in the building in June, followed by shooting in other area locations later on in the year.
When and if ECTOFi does shoot at the RTC, it will also shoot a student film called “Subrosa.” Promotional material for that featurette has already been shot.
