Wilkin County authorities have released information about the car theft and subsequent apprehension of a Rothsay man on Wednesday.

According to the sheriff’s office and other sources, Joseph Schleeter, whose age has not been released, attempted to steal a car near Ole and Lena’s Pizza in Rothsay around 6:30 p.m. The owner of the vehicle spotted him during the alleged theft and ran over to her car, but Schleeter left the scene in the vehicle, reportedly running over the woman’s arm.

Schleeter allegedly drove the car into Otter Tail County but then ran off a roadway, hitting an approach. He fled the vehicle and ended up on Interstate Highway 94 near the County Highway 24 bridge, where people attempted to restrain him from running or jumping into traffic. His behavior on I-94 or how he entered the road were not detailed by the sheriff’s office.

Schleeter was transported by ambulance to St. Mary’s Hospital in Detroit Lakes, and the woman, whose name has not been released, was transported to Sanford Hospital in Fargo.

Once again.. the journal has it wrong.
The part where.. “He fled the vehicle and ended up on Interstate Highway 94 near the County Highway 24 bridge”
The fact is.. He jumped off the County Hwy 24 bridge on to the east bound fast lane of I-94.
He jumped the guard rail, took 3 quick steps to his right and jumped off aiming for our car!
I narrowly missed him and almost lost control in doing so before getting stopped and calling 911. The semi driver and another cars driver had stopped behind me to subdue him until authorities arrived.

Drugs. They did not mention one way or the other, but nobody acts like that unless high on drugs.
